Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    November 2, 2025

Title: A Golden Opportunity

Main Idea:  You’re free. Now, go make something of your life.

Primary Passage:  Galatians 5:13-15

Sermon Outline:
  • God called us to freedom.
    • Galatians 5:13a (ESV)
    • Romans 8:29-30 (ESV)
  • We are to exercise our freedom in Christ,
    • Not as a license to indulge the insatiable desires of the flesh, which ends in destruction, but
      • Galatians 5:13b, 15 (ESV)
    • As an opportunity to serve one another out of love, which leads to fulfillment.
      • Galatians 5:13c-14 (ESV)

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Galatians 5:16-26.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. How does serving the flesh end up destroying both others and yourself? Feel free to share examples from your life.
  3. How does serving others in love end up fulfilling the Law, others, and yourself? Feel free to share examples from your life.
  4. How well are you doing at “using your freedom in Christ to make something of your life?” Explain your answer.
  5. Take some time with God to discern His leading in an area that He would like you to grow in this year and come up with a word or phrase that you can memorize and recite regularly and encapsulates what you received from Him.
  6. Share your word or phrase with the group and why you chose it.

As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
