Title: Beyond the Alphabet

​Main Idea:  As children of God, we are inheritors and stewards of God’s gracious blessing: Love.

Primary Passage:  Galatians 4:1-7
 
Sermon Outline:

• Prior to Jesus’ first advent, humanity was kept under the guardianship of the Law of Moses and enslaved to the selfish desires of the flesh.
  
  • Galatians 4:1-3 (ESV)
    
• When Jesus came, He retrieved the faithful as His own and gave us our rightful inheritance of the blessing of love, to steward by the Holy Spirit.
  
  • Galatians 4:4-7 (ESV)
    
  • Jeremiah 31:31-34 (ESV).

• For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Galatians 4:8-11.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)

1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
2. Do you agree that our main inheritance we have received as children of God is the gracious blessing of love (from God, for God, for others)? Explain your answer.
   
3. How does the notion of the Holy Spirit teaching us how to “speak” (i.e. meaningfully live out) the language of love sit with you?
   
4. In what ways do you hunger for a deeper mastery of love (e.g. growing in emotionally experiencing God’s deep love for you, learning how better to express your love for Him, understanding how to better steward His love in relation to others, etc.)?
   
5. What is it you want most as God’s heir? Where do you see in the Scriptures that what you want most is part of His promised inheritance? How might you begin to receive that from Him?
