Title: Chosen for Stature

Main Idea: God is blessed as the One who blessed us in Christ.

Primary Passage:  Ephesians 1:1–6

  • Paul opens his letter…
    • Ephesians 1:1a (ESV)
    • Ephesians 1:1b-2 (ESV)
  • by blessing God the Father…
    • Ephesians 1:3a (ESV)
  • who has blessed the faithful with stature in His Son, Jesus Christ.
    • Ephesians 1:3b (ESV)

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Ephesians 1:4-6.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. Did the message motivate you to join the mission in some way and, if so, how?
  3. How would you define the full measure of a king, in terms of physical and mental stature, character and morality, interpersonal skills, and leadership and governance/power?
  4. Where is Jesus still lacking in being the full measure of the King of kings?
  5. What does it mean to be “in Christ?” What were we “in” prior to being in Christ?
  6. What are the various ways that the New Testament writers describe Christians (e.g. the Bride of Christ)?
  7. Why are these descriptions important for us to know? How does our stature in Christ impact the measure of Christ as King?
  8. How does the understanding of your stature in Christ encourage or impact you?

As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
