Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon: May 3, 2026

Title: Gifted and Equipped

Main Idea: Each member of Christ’s Body is gifted and equipped, that He might fill everything with His presence.

Primary Passage:  Ephesians 4:7-12

Sermon Outline:
  • Though we are one in Christ, each member of His Body was given a spiritual gift,
    • Ephesians 4:7 (ESV)
  • After being enthroned back to His rightful position as King of all;
    • Ephesians 4:8-10 (ESV)
  • With some being given gifts meant to equip the others to fulfill His remaining works.
    • Ephesians 4:11-12 (ESV)

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Ephesians 4:13-16
Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. In what respect(s) are we one and in what respect(s) are we many, as the Body of Christ?
  3. What is the purpose of the spiritual gifts?
  4. Read 1 Corinthians 1:4-8. Based on verse 7 are there any gifts that will be lacking prior to Christ’s return (e.g. tongues, healing)? How does this view correspond to what you have been taught about spiritual gifts in the past?
  5. How do you think a Christian can discover their spiritual gift(s)?
  6. What do you believe your spiritual gift(s) is? Read the following passages to assist: Romans 12:6–8; 1 Corinthians 12:8–10; 1 Corinthians 12:28–30; Ephesians 4:11.
  7. Read 1 Peter 4:10–11. Is your gift an equipping (speaking) gift or a serving gift?
  8. Who, if anyone, has equipped you to know, hone, and use your spiritual gift(s) and how did they do that?
  9. Read 1 Corinthians 12:31 and 14:1. Why would Paul encourage his Christian readers to desire the higher/greater gifts if they’ve already been given one or more gifts?
  10. Read 2 Timothy 1:6. How are you fanning your gift into flame? Where/when are you actively seeking to use your gift and how are you seeing it be used by God to build the Body of Christ?
