Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    August 31, 2025

Title: Round Up

Main Idea:  God gave the Law to set us up to receive the gospel.

Primary Passage:  Galatians 3:19-22

Sermon Outline:
  • The Law was given…
    • As a temporary measure,
      • Galatians 3:19a
    • Inferior to the Promise;
      • Galatians 3:19b-20
    • Not as a means of attaining righteousness,
      • Galatians 3:21
    • But to prepare humanity for the gospel.
      • Galatians 3:22

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Galatians 3:23-29.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. What was a time when you were “rounded up” with a group of other people to prepare you all for something significant. Was the news of what you were being prepared for received the same way and to the same degree by everyone in the group? If there were differences in their response, what do you think was the reason for the differences?
  3. Read John 16:7-11. Jesus is telling us here that the Spirit will convince people of their sin due to their lack of belief in Jesus, His righteousness due to His ascension to the Father, and the judgment upon the world because Satan, the ruler of this world, has been judged. How did you personally come to conviction over your sinfulness, Christ’s righteousness as the Savior, and the judgment you were destined for because of your sin?
  4. Did you recognize at the time of your conversion that you were being spared judgment and being given new life because of your faith and not your works? If so, how did that impact you?
  5. Do you ever feel pressure to perform spiritually, like God expects you to grow spiritually through your own efforts? If so, how does that affect your spiritual demeanor? If not, how does that affect your spiritual demeanor?

As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
