Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    July 6, 2025

Title: Spot-On

Main Idea:  Paul’s gospel is flawless.

Primary Passage:  Galatians 2:1-10

Sermon Outline:
  • Acts 11:19-30
  • Galatians 2:1-2
  • Galatians 2:4
  • When the gospel Paul preached came under high-level scrutiny and seductive opposition…
    • No ground was given
      • Galatians 2:3-5
    • No changes were made
      • Galatians 2:6
    • It was unanimously endorsed
      • Galatians 2:7-10
Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. How would you state the gospel according to Paul?
  3. How closely does it match the gospel you live by and what about your behavior leads you to answer that way?
  4. Read Galatians 2:3. How do you suppose Titus must have felt, when he entered a Jewish (i.e. circumcised and Mosaic-Law-abiding) congregation as a Greek (i.e. uncircumcised and non-Mosaic-Law-abiding)?  Have you ever had an experience among Christians that was similar to his, where you were feeling “less than” those around you? If so, describe how you were feeling compelled to adapt or change in order to “fit in.” How did you respond to the palpable pressure? Was there anyone who showed you grace? If so, how did they express it?
  5. To what degree do you “go out of your way” to show grace to fellow believers who may be feeling “less than” those you are with? What do you do to express that grace?
  6. Describe how you have seen your version of the gospel change over the years? In what ways has it become more like or less like Paul’s gospel (which is really God’s gospel)?

As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
