Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    November 23, 2025

Title: The Benevolent Opportunist

Main Idea:  As you have opportunity, love the one in front of you.

Primary Passage:  Galatians 6:6-10

Sermon Outline:
  • Let’s make the most of every opportunity to do good to everyone, especially fellow believers;
    • Galatians 6:6,9,10 (ESV)
  • Because God’s good design cannot be altered.
    • Galatians 6:7-8,9 (ESV)
  • Main Idea: As you have opportunity, love the one in front of you.
    • Galatians 6:7,10 (ESV)
    • Galatians 1:13-17 (ESV)
    • Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Galatians 6:11-18.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. What is the difference between an opportunity and an obligation? Who is the primary beneficiary of each? How does that knowledge affect your motivation for fulfilling each?
  3. Because God is good, His purposes and plans are good. So, when we do things according to God’s design, we are doing good. To do anything against His design is to do what is futile. It benefits neither Him nor us. What did you glean from the illustration of the pear?
  4. How might we know when we are sowing to the flesh rather than to the Spirit?
  5. Read Philippians 3:7-11. How close are you to Paul’s realization of his wasted efforts in the flesh and the surpassing worth of knowing Christ? Why do you suppose he says “knowing Christ” rather than “having come to know Christ”? How are you doing at knowing Christ? How might you know Him better?
