Primary Passage:   Isaiah 9:6-7

Sermon Outline:
  • Generational ____________: Like the people of Israel, our own hearts long for things that are bigger and more lasting than what the ________ offers.
    • Isaiah 9:2-5 (ESV)
  • The Promised _________: Isaiah's prophecy of a "great light" serves as the fulfillment for this longing, showing that God's plan was always to send a ___________.
    • Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)
  • Fulfillment in _________: The decorations point to a larger reality that Jesus is the true light that has come to break through the ______________ of our world.
    • Isaiah 9:7 (ESV)
    • Matthew 4:13-17 (ESV)
  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Luke 2:8-14.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. What are your favorite Christmas decorations and why?
  3. What positive and/or negative feelings and longings does the Christmas season evoke in you and why do you suppose?
  4. How do you spot/recognize the “light” of a fellow believer in Christ?
  5. In what ways might we as Christians hide our light from those God brings across our paths?
  6. In what practical ways might we as Christians intentionally shine our light to those God in our circles of influence (i.e. neighbors, coworkers, classmates, roommates, family members, etc.)?
  7. What, if anything, might the Holy Spirit be asking you to do this Christmas season to intentionally shine your light, and what can we as fellow Christians do to support you in that?

As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
