Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    April 13, 2025

Main Idea:  Jesus completed His mission, on mission, and in willful surrender to His Father.

Key Verses:   21And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. Colossians 1:21-23

Bible Reading:    John 19:28-30 (ESV) - 28After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Luke 24:1-8.

Things to Consider:
  1. As you prayerfully consider your status in your life right now, do you believe you are fulfilling God’s purpose(s) for you?
    1. If so, recount with God the ways that He has used you lately and the fruit you have borne for His Kingdom, and thank Him for those things! What a privilege to be fruitful.
    2. If not, seek Him in a time of prayer and contemplation about where He might want you to take a step of faith, and commit that step to Him.
  2. What do you believe your spiritual gift(s) is?
    1. (Any aptitude you were born with is a Talent., Any ability to do something well that you acquired before coming to Christ is a Skill. Talents and Skills are not Spiritual Gifts. A Spiritual Gift is a special ability or grace given to someone by the Holy Spirit, after placing faith in Christ, for the purpose of building up the Church and serving others; not for personal gain. Iit is something you sense God’s joy and favor in using, you gain fulfillment in using, and it produces fruit for His Kingdom.)
    2. Recount, again with thanksgiving, the ways He has used that gift for the building up of the Body of Christ, and ask Him to work with you in fanning that gift into flame.
    3. If you aren’t sure what your spiritual gift is,
      1. Ask God to reveal it to you as you seek to be sensitive and obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
      2. Prayerfully do some research in the Word regarding spiritual gifts. Here are some related passages:
        1. Acts 1:8
        2. Romans 12:3-8
        3. 1 Peter 4:10-11
        4. 1 Corinthians 12:1-31
        5. Ephesians 4:11-16
        6. 2 Timothy 1:6-7
  3. Ask God to help you finish your mission, on mission, and in full surrender to His will.
