Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon:    April 20, 2025

Main Idea:  Expect, at any moment, to see Jesus alive and actively working among the living; not with the eyes of our bodies, but with the eyes of our spirits.

Key Verses:  “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen." Luke 24: 5b-6a (ESV)

Bible Reading:    Luke 24:1-8 (ESV) - 28After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Matthew 28:18-20.

Things to Consider:
  1. Assuming you are a follower of Christ; when did you come to the realization that you longed for more than this world could provide, and what could it not give you?
  2. How did you come to the conclusion that only Jesus could provide what the world could not give?
  3. Was there someone(s) in your life who gave you a taste of the life and love that Jesus offered? How did they do that? Have you ever let them know the impact they had on you? If not, consider writing them an email or giving them a call to let them know how much it meant to you.
  4. To what degree are you still seeking life in the dead things of the world? Why do you suppose?
  5. Do you notice a greater sense of life and joy when you allow Jesus to love and serve others through you? Why do you suppose?
  6. Prayerfully consider how Jesus might want you, with your spiritual eyes, to see Him alive and at work drawing others to Himself. How would you detect Him and His work? How might you join Him in that work, when you detect His presence?
  7. Ask God to help you grow in your ability to see Him, at any moment, alive and at work, and to give you His heart to join Him in that work.
