Sermon Notes

Date of Sermon: May 31, 2026

Title: Walk in Sight

Main Idea:  Walk, not as you were (darkened in sin), but as you are (enlightened in Christ).

Primary Passage:  Ephesians 4:17-24

Sermon Outline:
  • As we each play our gifted role in growing the Body of Christ to maturity in love, we are to appropriately walk in our personal lives,
    • Ephesians 4:17a  (ESV)
  • Not in step with the darkness of our old unregenerate self in sin,
    • Ephesians 4:17-19 (ESV)
  • But in step with the enlightenment of our new regenerated self in Christ.
    • Ephesians 4:20-24 (ESV)

  • For next week’s message: Read and reflect on Ephesians 4:25-32.

Things to Consider: (Feel free to read Scripture passages that God brings to mind as you work through these questions)
  1. What about the sermon challenged, encouraged, or confused you? What, if anything, would you like further clarification on?
  2. What was your reaction to the opening illustration of darkness and enlightenment?
  3. How do you think our root narratives (old self patterns of avoiding threats and coping with wounds) impact our ability to restructure those narratives to conform more to our new self in Christ?
  4. Charles will have a handout at our All-Church Bible Study to discuss more about how to overcome the fleshly patterns and learn to walk more in step with our new selves in Christ.
As always, feel free to contact Charles if you have questions or concerns regarding the message; its content, meaning, or application to your life. The easiest way to do that is by submitting a Bridge Card at steamboatbiblechurch.com/bridgecard.
